Art & Design

Here at Edwinstree we are creating experiences where pupils can develop their talents, confidence and enthusiasm. We endeavour to create an environment where pupils' curiosities are actively encouraged.

Any creative process contains an element of uncertainty. Experimentation goes hand in hand with play. Taking risks is integral to this process. It is important for children to discover for themselves the potential of different materials and processes, the teacher carefully facilitating and intervening when needed.

Pupils work on one main project each half term one lesson per week. Formal Elements of Tone, Line, Texture, Form, Shape and Pattern covered in key stage 2 and 3.

Pupils are encouraged to experiment with a variety of media. Year 5 work in class of 15 pupils, rotating for half a year Art lessons and half a year Design and Technology lessons. Year groups 6, 7 and 8 work in classes of 30, for a one hour Art lesson every week, all year.
